Accounting

Clients value Holborn’s emphasis on efficient claims payment and premium processing. Our account services professionals are steadfast in delivering accurate and timely processing of reinsurance transactions and rigorously ensuring compliance with the terms and conditions of each contract.

Claims

Holborn is committed to efficiently and effectively handling our clients’ claims.  Our claims brokers utilize their extensive industry experience to bolster this commitment and deliver prompt, complete recovery of all amounts owed to our clients.

Our claims brokers assist in the formulation of loss notifications, provide valuable market intelligence, stay abreast of insurance and reinsurance coverage issues for claims that may or may not impact reinsurers, and optimize the value of reinsurance claim reviews.

In addition, Holborn’s electronic client interface optimizes our claims performance.  Our SaaS-based reinsurance platform raises the industry bar, offering fast access to loss reporting facilities and day-by-day monitoring of amounts recovered from the markets.

We are tenacious advocates for our clients. In dispute situations, Holborn works to reach fair and balanced settlements whenever possible.  Our strong relationships with senior claims leaders in both U.S. and overseas markets is a significant factor in limiting disputes; nonetheless, the firm’s professionals also have significant expertise in arbitrations and mediation.

Contracts

Holborn’s Contract Services Department prides itself in providing bespoke reinsurance contracts for all of Holborn’s clients, as opposed to the “one size fits all” approach of most reinsurance brokers.

Holborn’s team of experienced contract professionals closely monitors regulatory and market changes within the reinsurance industry.

We provide a truly customized reinsurance product that ensures:

  • Our clients’ interests are protected;
  • Our clients’ intent is accurately and clearly recorded in the contract;
  • Our clients’ programs are consistent, where possible; and
  • Our clients’ contracts are presented in an easily understandable format.
Our approach means that our clients can depend on prompt, reliable payment from their reinsurance partners.
-Holborn's Market Security

Market Security

We take our role as an intermediary seriously.

Holborn evaluates reinsurers’ creditworthiness year round through its Reinsurance Security Committee (“the Committee”). On the most basic level, a strong reinsurance program is built upon reinsurers’ ability and willingness to pay cedants’ claims. To ensure our clients have the highest level of security possible, the Committee is comprised of a select group of our senior managers across multiple disciplines within Holborn, combined with a dedicated monitoring staff.

The Committee actively monitors reinsurers’ security and claims-paying history to identify potential security problems and to develop strategies to minimize any possible negative financial impacts to Holborn’s clients. Additionally, the Committee factors an assessment of reinsurers’ ability and willingness to renew their participations post-loss.

Transition Services

Moving to a new broker doesn’t have to be stressful. Holborn’s Transition Services makes the process as fast, efficient, and seamless as possible by immediately integrating our team with our new client’s team. Throughout and after the transition, clients take comfort in knowing that all of our client’s business is handled in the US and never outsourced – including collections of past claims.

Our new clients already know their Holborn team because Holborn does not “pass off” clients from a producer to a servicing broker. We ensure our new client’s team is comfortable with their Holborn counterpart. Paramount to our culture, much attention is put on the importance of relationships and mutual trust.

We encourage our clients to call on any member of their team or the Holborn team, including our CEO. We are developing lasting and meaningful business partnerships that we hope will last for decades.

Risk that is understood, managed, and clearly communicated in a way that is consumable to everyone in your organization encourages a strong risk culture. Governance, training strategies, metrics & controls, and capital allocation are techniques to ensure day-to-today adherence to your ERM program and corporate strategy. Leveraging Holborn’s comprehensive tool suite, we help tailor an ERM framework that supports managing your risks.

One of the key objectives of an insurer’s operating strategy is to maintain an acceptable target financial strength rating. Holborn has extensive experience in helping clients balance the sometimes-conflicting objectives of growth, profitability, portfolio optimization, capital adequacy, and multiple return metrics. Our robust financial analytics enable our clients to assess multiple key performance measures and analyze how various strategic decisions could be expected to impact the company’s financials and underlying qualitative and quantitative rating factors.

By their very nature, catastrophic property losses can wreak havoc on businesses and personal property, as well as the balance sheet. Media coverage of the devastation from a hurricane or tornado often makes these events seem “unexpected.” Even though recorded weather history is relatively limited (on a geologic scale), it’s clear that outliers, storms of extraordinary magnitude, have occurred before and will again.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that some of the largest insured events we see are not property, but liability-driven. Losses stemming from workers’ compensation, mass tort, clash, runaway defense costs, product liability, and punitive damage judgments can quickly add up to amounts greater than most weather or fire damages. Holborn monitors the litigious US landscape, tracking the latest judicial rulings and regional and local hotspots.

Contract wordings are continuously evolving to stay on top of emerging risks such as cyber, intellectual property, and labor laws. Working together, we ensure that the proper coverage and limits are maintained.

Holborn’s Reinsurance Security Committee (a select group of our senior managers across multiple disciplines) meets regularly to review the financial condition of each reinsurer. Each entity is closely monitored for financial and operational performance through meetings with management, rating agency activity and news releases. Our monthly newsletters keep clients informed of any noteworthy changes.

Holborn can provide clients with access to RiskRater®, a proprietary reinsurance pricing engine designed (but not limited) to manage portfolios of mutual insurers. RiskRater® employs a systematic approach to pricing that is consistent across client companies. Smaller companies with sparse rating histories are rated with the support of defined cohorts and compared with industry information to enable a more informed view of risk. Developed to be nimble and flexible without proprietary software installations, RiskRater® requires only a connection to a centralized database, where all data (present and historical) is stored and archived, allowing access to detailed information for year over year pricing.

Our Vision

Our way includes giving the client peace of mind of knowing they can “shake the same hand” again and again over time, and that our team is uniquely positioned to represent their interests in the marketplace, given our in-depth knowledge of their operations, business plans and issues, nuances, history, and the way they like to receive service from us and from their reinsurers. This is how we define our “client intimacy strategy.”
