John Gilbert serves as Chairman of the Board and Director of Holborn. He joined the firm in 1962 as a broker trainee and progressed steadily through successive appointments as Vice President in 1967 and President in 1973.

John received a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He served as a commissioned naval officer before starting his business career, and then spent time in the London market as part of his apprenticeship in reinsurance broking.

John is one of the officers of the Brokers & Reinsurance Markets Association (BRMA). In 2004, he was named Reinsurance Broker of the Year by Lloyd’s of London. He has served on the Board of Directors of American Crown Life Insurance Company and Lloyds, New York. A recognized authority in the industry, John continues to speak regularly on a range of reinsurance topics.

John is active in a number of Brooklyn community organizations, and has served on the Board of the local chapter of the YMCA, the Vestry of Grace Church, and as President of the Heights Casino Club.
